Most repair calls trace back to a handful of failures, and the symptom usually points to the cause.
A door that drags at the bottom corner is almost always a hinge that has drifted or a clamp that loosened, letting the panel drop. Water on the bathroom floor after every shower is typically a failed sweep or seal, not a design flaw. A slider that jumps or sticks is a roller or track problem, often just built-up soap scum. A door that swings open on its own has lost hinge tension.
When to Repair and When to Replace Shower Doors
We will tell you when a repair is not worth doing, because taking the smaller job twice does not help either of us.
Repair usually makes sense when the glass is intact, the frame is solid, and the anchoring is still holding. Hardware, seals, rollers, and single-panel glass are all straightforward fixes on an otherwise sound enclosure.
Replacement is the better call when the frame is corroded through, when the anchoring has pulled out of the wall and the substrate behind it is damaged, when multiple panels are compromised, or when the enclosure is old enough that replacement parts are no longer manufactured. That last one catches people off guard. Hardware from a discontinued line can be genuinely unobtainable, and at that point a repair means fabricating a workaround that will not last.

Broken Shower Glass and What to Do
Tempered shower glass does not crack and hold. When it fails it goes all at once, breaking into thousands of small blunt fragments across the bathroom floor.
That is the safety design working as intended, and it is far better than the alternative, but it is alarming when it happens. If it happens to you: keep people and pets out of the room, wear shoes, and do not try to pull remaining fragments out of the hardware, since the pieces still in the clamps are under tension.
Spontaneous breakage is rare but real, usually caused by a nickel sulfide inclusion in the glass or by an edge chip that has been quietly stressing the panel for months. More often something struck it. Either way, we can template the opening and fabricate a replacement panel to fit the existing frame and hardware if the rest of the enclosure is sound.

Repairs are quoted per job, because the range runs from a ten-minute hinge adjustment to fabricating and setting a replacement panel. Hardware and seal work sits at the low end and is a small fraction of what a new enclosure costs. Track and roller service falls in the middle. Single-panel glass replacement costs more, since the panel has to be templated, cut, edged, and tempered like any custom piece. Parts availability affects it too, as hardware from discontinued lines can be difficult to source. We look at the enclosure, tell you what it needs, and quote it before any work starts.

How much does shower door repair cost?
Shower door repair pricing depends on what actually needs fixing. Hardware issues such as a loose hinge, a worn roller, a broken handle, or a leaking seal are usually the least expensive fix, since those are individual parts rather than the glass itself. Track problems on a sliding door fall in a similar range, whether that means realigning a track or replacing worn rollers and guides.

Do you repair shower doors you did not install?
Yes. Most of our repair calls are on doors we did not originally install, which is normal, since homes change hands, the original installer may not be local anymore, and hardware wears out on a schedule that has nothing to do with who put it in.
We diagnose the enclosure as it exists now rather than assuming anything about how it was built. Frameless, semi-frameless, and sliding doors all use different hinge, clamp, and track hardware, so the first step on any repair call is identifying exactly what hardware is on your door before we know what parts or approach the fix needs.

My shower door leaks onto the floor. Can that be fixed?
In most cases, yes, and it is usually a seal, sweep, or alignment problem rather than a sign the enclosure needs to be replaced. Vinyl sweeps and wipe seals along the bottom and vertical edges wear out and compress over years of use, which lets water pass through gaps that used to be sealed.
On a hinged door, a leak can also mean the door itself has settled out of plumb, so it is no longer closing flush against the seal. On a sliding door, a leak often traces back to the track being slightly out of level, letting water pool at the low end instead of draining back into the shower.

My sliding door sticks and jumps the track. What causes that?
This is almost always the rollers, the track, or buildup in the channel, not the glass itself. Rollers wear down or their bearings fail after years of daily use, which lets the panel ride unevenly in the track and catch or jump instead of gliding smoothly.
Hardened soap film and mineral scale in the track channel can also cause sticking, since the panel is riding through debris instead of a clean groove. A track that has come slightly out of level over time will produce the same symptom, with the door dragging or binding at one point along its travel rather than the whole length.

Can one broken panel be replaced without redoing the whole enclosure?
Yes, in most cases. A single cracked or shattered panel does not usually mean the entire enclosure needs to be rebuilt, since the surrounding panels, hardware, and framing are typically still sound. We measure the damaged panel's opening and hole pattern on site and fabricate a new piece of tempered glass to match, since tempered glass cannot be repaired or altered once it is made.
Matching matters here. We match the glass type, thickness, and edge finish of the new panel to the rest of the enclosure so it does not look mismatched sitting next to the original panels. If the hardware on the damaged panel is also worn or damaged, that can be replaced at the same time.

Why did my shower glass shatter on its own?
This is a real, documented phenomenon called spontaneous glass breakage, and it happens even to glass that was never struck or visibly damaged. Tempered glass holds a large amount of stress locked inside it from the tempering process, and a small internal flaw, most often a microscopic nickel sulfide inclusion that was present in the raw glass before it was ever tempered, can slowly expand over months or years until it triggers that stored stress to release all at once.
When it happens, the panel breaks into the same small blunt pieces tempered glass always breaks into, which is a sign the glass did what it was designed to do rather than a sign of a defective install. It is uncommon, but it is a known characteristic of tempered glass in general and is not unique to any one fabricator or brand.
